Volunteers for Bend Area Habitat’s deconstruction crew were tasked with an unexpected job this summer: dissemble an old Oregon State Police building. The affiliate estimates the salvage job brought in $26,000 through recycling programs and ReStore sales and kept 50,000 cubic feet of usable materials out of local landfills. In fact, some of the former police headquarters’ 2x4s were used in the construction of Bend Area Habitat’s 100th home, built in June.
