Starting this fall, the Canadian penny will no longer be circulated. Upon hearing the news, Habitat Greater Kingston and Frontenac constructed a house-shaped receptacle for its ReStore counter. Within days, customers looking to unload their pennies had filled the container. Together, Habitat Canada’s 69 affiliates are promoting a national campaign to collect 690 million pennies, enough to build a house in each community where Habitat works.
