Habitat began building in Brampton, Ontario, in 2004. From then through 2011, the young affiliate worked to identify community needs and constructed its first four houses.
Over the next decade, Habitat Brampton will look to increase its capacity to serve more families, launching an ambitious “36inTen” campaign to build 36 homes over the next 10 years. In May, the affiliate broke ground on its first two houses in Brampton’s Hoskins Square. The 36-home plan involves a mix of detached, single-family houses and townhomes.
“The support and response of the Brampton community has been overwhelmingly positive to the building of our first home on Hoskins Square,” says Thomas Fischer, Habitat Brampton’s executive director. “Business, government and everyday Canadians have all collaborated to make something really important come to fruition here in Brampton.”
Already, more than 200 companies and 600 volunteers have contributed to the initial construction on Hoskins Square.
